Home of our dreams: two women’s journey to building their homes

Motijhari and Chandmuni, two informal women workers dreamt of owning a pucca house ever since they married and moved to Mubarakpur, Patna. Due to their informal nature of employment, they could not avail housing loans through formal banks. In September 2021, SEWA’s Zamini Adhikar Abhiyan (ZAA) introduced them to Sitara, a SEWA housing finance company. Together, SEWA and Sitara worked closely to offer loans in line with the repayment capacities of women from the community. The case study elaborates on the stories of Chandmuni ben and Motijhari ben, whose dreams of owning a home came true.
