About SEWA Bharat:

Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) is a movement to empower women working in the informal economy. SEWA Bharat is part of the national SEWA movement. Established in 1984, it is a national federation of SEWA organisations of women working in the informal economy. SEWA Bharat emerged out of the need to address the SEWA movement’s challenges with geographical expansion and coordination. SEWA Bharat comprises a family of SEWA organisations to further informal women workers’ rights, livelihoods, financial independence, education, health and social security.

Job Description:

The Supervisor will primarily support in overseeing and managing the work in Malda/Kolkata district, by working closely with women workers and the block team. She will ensure that tasks are completed efficiently, effectively, and in accordance with organizational goals. She will contribute to building up the SEWA movement by uniting and organising women workers around issues of specific trade and community. She will work with SEWA members, stakeholders, and local authorities to build strong relationships, facilitate participation in programmes, and contribute to strengthening SEWA’s presence.

Tasks and Deliverables:

  • Monitoring and Evaluation of the Block/District
  • Documentation and Coordination
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Responsible for the work in Malda and strengthening new and old areas
  • Conducting meetings with trade committees
  • Responsible for SEWA activities in Malda with Migrants, Beedi and Agricultural workers
  • Responsible for monthly meetings with aagewaans (SEWA’s grassroots leaders)
  • Responsible for regular meetings with elected women representatives, self-help groups
  • Responsible for monitoring and updating Google Drive regularly
  • Facilitating Linkage with MGNREGA-SSY
  • Conducting unit meetings and meetings with stakeholders
  • Strengthening VHSNC, VLCPC
  • Responsible for capacity building of aagewans
  • Advocacy with the stakeholders, field-level coordination

Expected Outcomes From This Role:

  • Schedule and conduct at least one meetings with aagewans
  • Check and update registers, prepare MPRs
  • Meet with stakeholders at least once per month to update them on SEWA activities
  • Plan outreach activities to ensure maximum participation from community members.
  • Address concerns, challenges, and grievances raised by SEWA members and team

Key Requirements:

  • A graduate degree (Bachelor’s level) from a recognised university or institution in any relevant field.
  • Previous experience in community engagement, organising, or grassroots mobilisation (preferably with women, agricultural workers, or marginalised communities).
  • Strong understanding of government welfare schemes, programmes aimed at supporting the agricultural sector and rural development.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse community members and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Fluency in English, Hindi and Bengali  (written and oral) is required.

Location:

West Bengal – Malda and Kolkata

Salary:

Rs. 20,000 – 25,000
