About SEWA Bharat

Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) is a movement to empower women working in the informal economy. SEWA Bharat is part of the national SEWA movement. Established in 1984, it is a national federation of SEWA organizations of women working in the informal economy. SEWA Bharat emerged out of the need to address the SEWA movement’s challenges with geographical expansion and coordination. SEWA Bharat is comprised of a family of SEWA organizations to further informal women workers’ rights, livelihoods, financial independence, education, health and social security.

About the role

We are looking for a Communications Associate preferably with a background in communications and design, to work within the Advocacy Vertical at SEWA Bharat. The Associate will be expected to undertake a variety of communications-related tasks including daily management of social media channels, collaboration with media and establishing contacts internally and externally, website design, dissemination of resources, organizing digital campaigns and events, etc.



  • Coordinate and implement communication strategies to strengthen the visibility of the work of SEWA Bharat, resource sharing and dissemination;

  • Establish meaningful relationships internally across SEWA Bharat, and externally with consumers and media persons;

  • Collaborate with media on various levels and initiate ideas to preserve and promote the organization’s objectives;

  • Conduct on-page and off-page SEO for driving traffic to SEWA Bharat website and provide recommendations on optimising existing content

  • Develop and increase the organisation’s digital presence;

  • Design and develop key communications assets such as press releases, brochures and event-based collaterals for different stakeholders, while ensuring consistency with the organisation’s style guidelines;

  • Maintain content inventories, including photos, videos and design assets;

  • Assist with the planning and managing events, webinars, etc.


  • Excellent written and oral communications skill across various media

  • Fluency in social media platforms and analytics

  • Brand building and vendor management experience

  • Knowledge of photo editing tools, illustrators and experience creating other non-textual forms of communication including graphic art, posters, etc.

  • Experience with digital campaign creation and/or organizing

  • Strong network and experience in Advertising or Public Relations

  • Willingness to travel to different districts as and when required

  • Women candidates strongly preferred

Educational and Other Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Masters in Communications/Development Communications/PR and Media Relations

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience

  • Oral and/or written fluency in English or Hindi
