About SEWA Bharat:

Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) is a movement to empower women working in the informal economy. SEWA Bharat is part of the national SEWA movement. Established in 1984, it is a national federation of SEWA organizations of women working in the informal economy. SEWA Bharat emerged out of the need to address the SEWA movement’s challenges with geographical expansion and coordination. SEWA Bharat comprises a family of SEWA organizations to further informal women workers’ rights, livelihoods, financial independence, education, health and social security.

Job Description:

The position is based out of  Bhagalpur, Bihar and the candidate and the candidate will be on probation for a period of 6 months. The CTC for this position is Rs. 12,000 monthly. Please note that this position is only for female candidates and are expected to travel during the period of probation for training requirements or according to the organization’s need whenever the management deems it necessary.

Scope of Work

SEWA has engaged the Consultant to provide services in connection with activities run by SEWA Bharat. Scope of work of the consultant in the capacity of “Accountant” includes analyzing accounting data, preparing reports and looking after day-to-day accounting activities of the social enterprise and providing supervision and guidance to the operations team for ensuring that the organization’s accounts are properly maintained.

Roles & Responsibilities

  1. All accounts related data should be maintained as per GAAP (Trial Balance and Balance Sheet etc)
  2. Prepare Ledger of expenses, Income, member’s accounts, and cash book and bank account, match with the manual and software data and payment disbursement to vendors and Krishi sakhis on time.
  3. Looking after daily manual and software data entries and ensuring the tally.
  4. To keep the record of stocks and will help the Krishi sakhis to maintain it regularly at the different stock points too. Visit the stock point at least twice a month. Initiating and managing financial data updates on an everyday basis.
  5. Manage Board member related queries if required visit their places for ease of the process.
  6. Reconciling the bank statements and bookkeeping ledgers, coordinate with Chartered accountant for Monthly and annually company submissions as per Indian Law.
  7. Accounting Rules made by the organization’s management and auditors also should be followed and responsibly for all these.
  8. Prepare accounting-related reports and present to the management committee
  9. Compliance work- GST return, TDS (if applicable), If other

Key Skills and Qualifications:


  1. Graduation in any stream is a must
  2. 3-5 years of experience in similar field
  3. Excellent verbal and written abilities in Hindi and English

Skills & Knowledge:

  1. Advanced computer skills in MS Office, accounting software and databases
  2. Ability to collaborate effectively and work as part of a team
  3. Strong attention to detail

Location: Bhagalpur, Bihar

Travel to Munger & other places for resolving accounting and audit related queries.
